Artist Biography.

Philippa is an artist specialising in contemporary British seascapes, landscapes and still life. Many of her paintings depict the Surrey and Hampshire countrysides near to home, as well as the rugged coastlines of Cornwall, and Isles of Scilly. Her style is bold, instinctive and invigorating, capturing the character and immediacy of life. She bravely interprets the land and sea through the fluid use of paint, and her passion for colour is evident throughout her work.

Philippa graduated from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in 1997, before beginning her career as a professional artist. She has developed her skill and technique by studying regularly at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London, and the Newlyn Art School in Cornwall.

Philippa's 'Constantine Bay' wins First Prize in the Professional Artists category of the Penzance Art Festival 2021

Philippa Richardson’s work is vibrantly minimalist. She can describe a landscape with a breath-taking paucity of information. Rows of beach huts are picked out with deft strokes, hot colour blocks and a handful of questing marks. They are fresh, unlaboured and luminous
